Canadian winters can be brutal. The last thing you’d think to do is put on a swimsuit and go for a dip, unless you are Matthew Villegas.
Villegas is an internationally acclaimed free diver, and he just won a GoPro award for his swim in the icy waters of an abandoned quarry in Quebec, Canada.
He finds an open spot in the ice, then takes the plunge. But he doesn’t dive normally, oh no, he actually swims upside down so the ice on the surface of the water looks like the bottom of the mine. It really messes with your brain.
Bonus: he finds a sunken airplane.
