Taylor Trupiano was heating his car up in subzero Michigan temperatures when he found a ticket for $128 on the windshield.
“I thought it was some kind of joke at first, and then I was thrown back by it. I was really surprised,” he told ABC. “I was in and out in probably about seven to eight minutes. So in that amount of time he ran up here, gave me a ticket and by the time I got out, he was nowhere to be seen.”
The ticket charged him for leaving the keys in his car with the engine running. Even though it’s not illegal, the police advise against it, hence the ticket. They believe it leads to car theft.
“We have five to 10 cars stolen this way every winter,” Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said to ABC. “It’s dangerous, and of course it drives everyone’s insurance rates up. It drives our crime rates up [too].”
“Common sense says you don’t leave your car running unattended,”
Take note and be careful not to leave your cars running!
