Back in the summer of 2004, a massive and mysterious crater was discovered on the Yamal Peninsula in the Siberia region of Russia. Soon after, more similar craters were discovered. Since then, numerous theories about the holes have abounded. Some believed they were the result of meteors. Some thought they were the result of underground explosions. Some even thought that they were proof of mysterious extraterrestrial activity.
For years, various groups and scientists have offered their thoughts — both rational and eclectic — about the cause of these Siberian curiosities, but often with little research. However, the scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) believe that after years of research they have finally found the real cause behind these holes, and it is shocking nonetheless.
